In Tracing Beauty, the new series of paintings from artist Petra Schott, she inquires about beauty. What is beauty in art, and what is beauty in life, she asks. Is beauty a criterion for us? Is it truth, or is it beauty and truth? Can we enjoy beauty even if there is a lot of chaos around us? As always, Schott’s work is influenced by Cy Twombly, Leiko Ikemura, Joan Mitchell, Marlène Dumas, Elisabeth Cummings, and Henri Matisse as she creates colorful representations of nostalgia, freedom, and human relationships.
